AMC to cast veteran!

AMC has put out a casting call for the character of Brot, but they aren't looking for just an actor for this role. AMC's casting director, Judy Blye Wilson, wants to cast an actual war veteran to play this part. Brot's character is the long time love of Taylor Thompson (Beth Ehlers) whom she believes died during his tour in Iraq. Brot's injuries have prevented him from contacting Taylor, not wanting to burden her and allowing her to think he's dead.

The story will unfold as soon as the veteran/actor is hired and will not only involve
Taylor but will also involve Dr. Jake Martin (Ricky Paull Goldin), who is very much anti-war and has put in his own time in a warzone while working in Darfur for Doctors Without Borders.

AMC is working with the organization USA Cares, a non profit group that provides support to wounded soldiers and families, to help the show with the accuracy of a military storyline and war injuries. I personally applaud AMC for telling this story. The war in Iraq is something that many people are affected by and can relate to and AMC is no stranger to tackling such important issues. Back in 1973, Mary Fickett (then Ruth), won the very first ever Emmy Award for a daytime actress when she delivered a very powerful anti-war speech about Vietnam.

  1. I'm sorry, what is this name, "Brot"? I have never heard this name before. Is it a nickname or a shortened version of a full name? How is it pronounced. I highly recommend that casting changes this name before it's too late. There are plenty of unique names available that aren't this awful. My apologies to anyone who really has this name.

  2. I never heard the name either, and it's not a given that will actually be the guys name. Very often the casting call has a different name than what the character ends up with. It is odd, kind of reminds me of Borat! LOL

  3. Brot could be his last name, given that he's in the military.
