TV Guide Online has shown us the first look at AMC's new opening credits, set to debut next week on December 22. I don't know... it's nice and all, but it looks like Dynasty. I'm glad they kept the same theme, but I miss the book! It's classic.
They had the book but it was at the end with the book open when you see the title of the show. Yes, it isn't like the previous opening, but it's different. It reminds me of someone else's rendition of combining AMC with Dynasty. I think I had seen it somewhere on YouTube.
Chrishell Stause (Amanda) is recurring, not contract and the opening is for contract players. Not sure about Shannon Kane (Natalia). I assumed she was on contract, but maybe not!
This is TOO Dynasty looking, agreed! The original opening lasted 20 years, 1970-1990. The second change was made in 1990 to 1995, which was the "Falling Pictures" version. From 1995-2002 was "The White Version". White meaning the background from the wooden table, that the book was laying on, to a white background. In 2002-2003 it changed again, to the "Scrapbook" and from 2003 to present it was "The Family Album". It was definitely time for another change, but the "Dynasty" look is a bit much.
If you slow it down you can see Chrishelle walking in the park with Jake and Trevor in a stroller. I would have broken the rule for Chrishell and put her in because she's a draw. And smokin' hot. I'm fine with most of it, but I miss the picture of Phoebe and the book. While it makes sense to us, the book's current depiction won't make any sense to a newer viewer. They should make it more apparent that the book is actually a photo album. The Kane women shot is nice, and I can understand why they want to showcase Lucci but maybe Carruthers should have given that real estate to a nod in favor of history--even if all they did was show the photobook closing and all we saw was a quick shot of the Poem with AMC on the front cover. Overall, I heaitate to criticize. At least they finally invested in new credits, kept the song and didn't completely screw up as Crapputhers and company have tended to do for the past several years. I can live with this. I HATED the White Version, loved the original 90's version with pics of Phoebe, Langley, Brook and Adam on the table, but I'm also hugely sentimental about that group of characters.
I agree Shadow. I hated the White version as well. The 1990-1995 version was my all time favorite. It was a jazzier version of the current song (which I love). I don't mind it, I wish they had showed the closing book with some images of Phoebe, Adam, Brooke, and Palmer, but I understand why they can't focus on characters that aren't on anymore (not to mention that it reminds viewers of what an amazing show it used to be). This version should make it easier to update, and not take over a year as this year has proven! I'm excited about seeing the new Marissa! She looks good in the opening, strongly resembling Krystal!!!
You know, the nice thing is that it looks like regular TV shows by using actual episode footage. It's a little cheesy but just a little.
Honestly, the big thing I take from this is I don't know if Sarah Glendening is going to "look good" next to Daniel Cosgrove, Jacob Young and MCE. She still looks a bit younger than the others, even though I think Marissa and JR are supposed to be around the same age, and Annie a little younger.
Amanda is there, I saw her!!!! I like it.... It's fresh, and new, and different!! I do love the falling pic's from the early 90's, but it was really time for a new look!!
History aside, I like the #AMC opening better than the GH opening. But poor OLTL-that shot of Bree with her hands in her hair, for example, is so pitifully cheesey. Actually, I would have used the town shots & moving pictures for OLTL because it's closer to the popular 80's OLTL visual cues and given AMC an updated scrapbook. Interesting that they show a more generic, urban looking setting. "It's not the corner of Hollywood & Vine". I still prefer the bucolic country club version that belonged to haughty Phoebe & Enid and the working class Martins & Hubbards to the bitchy hi-rises of the Fusion era, but even Dallas grew up. Sort of.
I love it! We cant say we hate it because we finally got a new opening to our beloved show. Jamie Luner looks amazing! No Natalia? AMC just needs to get rid of Randi and Brot to get all the way on the right path. These 2 characters bring nothing more then a snooze fest.
I'm not a huge fan. It is pretty cheesy: Kendall's head-wagging, "oh no you don't!" shot (and Krystal's, too, for that matter) plus shirtless Asher and Griffin. But I'm not going to get my panties in a wad about it. I never watch the show live, and skipping over these credits shouldn't be too difficult.
I've been watching AMC since it started in 1970. I stick by the show and try to defend it. And I enjoy this website as a place to share opinions. Mine is that I really don't like this new opening. At all. I don't think it represents the flavor of the show. It certainly drops any reference to show history. Maybe I'll change my mind, but I don't think so. I admit, as a long time viewer, the history is probably more important to me. If you don't have any real memories of Phoebe, why would you care about her photo? I understand, but I don't have to like it.
s'okay. it's not the iconic book opening that i grew up with. i miss the photos of phoebe, adam and palmer - i sure wish they had something that tied the original characters to the present. i like the new credits better than the current one, actually.
Isn't Rebecca Budig (Greenlee) on recurring status as well? I'm pretty sure that was the only way she'd agree to return. Natalia hasn't really had a front burner storyline, well, ever, so I get why they leave her put. But, to not give Amanda a more up front part of the opener, but to Give Cara, nuScott (well, old new Scott lol) and nuMarissa all bigger parts doesn't make sense to me. Amanda is one of my faves!
I agree Steve! I like the new opening too. It's nice to see something new. I think true "fans" stick w/a show through good/bad times and don't criticize it into nonexistence
@mlayne- Thanks! Its ok to complain about the bad writting or actors that come on the show..but to complain about the opening credits? what the hell? They sound like a bunch of ungrateful spoiled fucking brats! They really need to get off the couch and get a life.
I'm not too worried about criticizing the show off the air. If the people in charge listened to the fans, the show would be pretty different. As far as one person deciding what should and shouldn't be complained about and the name calling-- I think that's pretty much against the rules of the PVB as I understand it.

ReplyDeleteChrishelle is recurring? That seems weird.

ReplyDeleteCould have used less moob! And I could forgive a lot if they brought Brooke back. She is the key missing element right now. Less Moob! More Brooke!
ReplyDeleteOMG! What the hell people! Stop picking at everything about the show. Will you be happy when its gone? If you dont like it, then DONT WATCH IT!.
ReplyDeleteMost of you sound like a bunch of fucking unhappy brats! plain and simple.

ReplyDeletei'm indifferent... and kind of sad. the opening is so far from the way it used to be that it makes me miss the old story lines even more.
ReplyDeleteon another note... who is the guy appearing right before liza?
Oh Snap @Steve.
ReplyDelete@ Trang
ReplyDeleteThat's Daniel Cosgrove, who will playing Scott starting 12/27.

@Kenneth- Sit and spin baby
ReplyDeletePlay nice please.
ReplyDeleteHated it! Thought I was watching the opening to "Santa Barbara". Pine Valley IS still in PA, isn't it? And no Phoebe? Sacrilegious!
ReplyDeleteAlso, why are some posters allowed to use the f-word on this site? Disgusting.
@nathan. thanks for clarifying!! =)
ReplyDeletehappy holidays all.
