Happy Birthday AMC!!!

Happy 41st birthday to All My Children!!!   It started as a half hour show with a sassy high school girl named Erica Kane.   41 years later, Erica Kane is still front and center and that fact was driven home on Monday's exceptional Emmy worthy show!  Susan Lucci still shines as Erica and continues to remind me why she is the Diva of all Divas!   Happy Birthday AMC!!!

  1. Happy Birthday, AMC! Here's hoping the show lasts for another forty years. We know that the cast is capable of great performances. Susan Lucci's bravura showing on Monday was evidence that the program has the power that it needs to continue for many years to come. Let's get some good writing going again and hope that those in charge remember the past forty-one years of exceptional history. Here's to Pine Valley!

  2. I think Susan Lucci's Monday performance simply showed how rich and complicated the character of Erica is. It showed the history of Erica, how she had been changing, how she had been growing. Great job!

  3. While AMC was originally a half-hour show, it was always shot and broadcast IN COLOR since its debut in 1970. The black and white clips that turn up are kinescope copies. In many cases these are all that are available of the early episodes since the videotapes were routinely erased and re-used then. But the show, as broadcast, has always been in color.

  4. Thanks. Makes sense. Color was widely used by 1970.

  5. Doing the math, I think I know why I identified with the show from the start. I was 16 when the show began and Erica, Tara, Phil, Chuck, etc. were about my age. Then, there was Kate Martin, who was so much like my mom's mom. These people were "real" to me, unlike those on other shows at that time.
So, Happy Birthday, AMC!! If there had been dvrs back then, I would never have missed an episode (sadly, my dvr "ate" my saved 40th anniversary episode; I continue to look for a copy). You make me mad, AMC, but I still at least fast forward through every episode.
