I Guess I Have To Say Something
It's always been my policy to not comment or perpetrate rumors. But with all the emails and questions I'm getting about the rampant rumor that AMC is getting canceled, I guess I have to say something. Is it true? I don't know. Fact is, no one seems to know. I have seen many articles online today about this rumor and not one of them had any basis in fact, credited a source, or gave any kind of specifics. Does that mean it's not true? Not necessarily because we all know where there is smoke there is usually fire. But AMC or one of the ABC soaps being canceled isn't exactly a new rumor. This has been going on for years. So new information this is not. Most of the articles I read state that AMC could be replaced with a talk show as soon as this fall. So, if a cancellation is going to happen, it would seem that it is going to happen soon. Until then, I chose to relax and wait for it to play out. Panic, petitions, threats and anger accomplishes nothing. I'm taking the wait and see approach, but if you're so inclined to write someone, it's never a bad idea to drop a line to official outlets (SOD, SID, SOW, ABC) and let them know just how much the show means to you.
I dont think ABC would have paid for such a move to the east coast to the west and then cxl a show. I may be wrong, but I hope not. I have watched AMC since the mid 70s.

Let's hope not!!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking Susan Lucci is the last charter member of the group still active.
ReplyDeleteIf they were to cancel the show, I would think they would wait until after she left, but I could be wrong. Certainly have been wrong before....
I have been watching AMC forever.
ReplyDeleteWould be very sad if it was cancelled.
Just saw an article on this on the front of my AOL news page this morning. I hope it's not true. If they cancel any ABC soap I'd rather it be OLTL.

ReplyDeleteNot good...........
It does seem odd to spend the money to move the show out to CA and then cancel it within the year. I'll be sad to see it go if that's what happens.
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't think the network cares whether or not Susan Lucci is ready for retirement. That won't go into their considerations.
I have written emails, posted on ABC's site, put out calls for people to do the same on Facebook and Twitter - the more people who write in, the better chance we have for keeping it on the air. Supposedly, write-ins helped save Rebecca Herbst's job on GH...
ReplyDeleteBTW, I think you meant you don't perpetuate rumors; perpetrate would mean you started the rumor... :o)
Now I'm confused! LOL I don't start or finish them... hmmm, maybe I should have just said that lol
ReplyDeleteHow do we stand a chance when there are articles like this out there?

Sorry, I don't see it. Here's why -
ReplyDeleteAMC and GH are both produced in California. If one of them has to go, this is the opportunity to get rid of the oddball and have all the soaps produced out west. It makes business sense. Also, with the cancellation of OLTL, AMC and GH will be under pressure to put together better storylines and come in under budget. They will have to perform or suffer the same fate. But I really don't see ABC cancelling one of the shows out west and have a bi-coastal soap production division.
Tim I like the logic, but many of the articles are saying that if AMC goes, ABC will most likely move OLTL to LA.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I find it quite interesting that when you post this type of stuff you/we get piles of comments and yet, here we are into Tuesday and no one has any comments of the spoilers. Perhaps, it's a reflection of how poorly this soap remains (primarily, in terms of writing.) JMHO
ReplyDeleteA year ago, OLTL was rumored to be the ABC soap at risk. But things have changed. In the past year, OLTL has enjoyed a creative revival and always comes in under budget. AMC, on the other hand, is over budget and delivers varying quality. Recent "insider" columns suggest that AMC HAS made recent cuts, but not in actors, but people behind the scenes. Perhaps Kathy can see if her sources confirm this...
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like the idea of combining AMC and OLTL into one and getting rid of the deadwood on both shows. What better way to revolutionize the shows than to give the characters new people to interact with (and hopefully, with quality performers who can actually act)?
As bad as AMC is - and, to me, it's been in the pits for a couple of years now, I'd hate to see it go. It will be one less piece of my history that will be lost forever.
Here is another link to verify this rumor. Ladies, it isn't looking good for AMC.

What will happen to this site, Pine Valley Bulletin? It is the only site I visit daily to keep up with what is going on not only with the soap but the actors too. I will miss you. Thanks for all your time in keeping us up-to-date.
I had an email that there was another comment here posted by Lynn (but I don't see it now), asking what will happen to the PVB if AMC gets canceled. The answer to that is that the history sections will probably remain online and "where are they now" interviews continuing (in fact I have one coming up soon!). If there is a cancellation, there won't be anything left to report.
ReplyDeleteGoogling this morning there were over 70 articles all saying the same thing, but none saying it's a done deal. And I had no emails or calls telling me it's a done deal yet.
Please contact ABC and let them know you would like All My Children to remain on the air:

Kathy, The writer SHOULD leave. A new writer is what's needed here.
