More Irizarry News

So many things about this do not add up.  I addressed some of them in my most recent commentary, but there's more to explore.  First of all, there's the little matter of how Vincent Irizarry's departure as David from AMC wasn't announced until the day it actually aired.  That rarely, if ever happens.  There's always a leak.  But let's just say for arguments sake that everyone on the set was sworn to secrecy, signed papers and were threatened with lawsuits.   It still doesn't add up.  Losing David essentially ends several major storylines.   Why get Caleb involved in the David vs. the Hubbard's story a week or so before David is to be killed off?   Why start a potential love match between David and Liza if David was to be killed off?  Why do Fall previews include David?   Is it all smoke and mirrors?   Is it a big joke?  What's the deal people!   Well could this statement on Vincent's Official Facebook page shed some light perhaps?  You be the judge.

Hello everyone -- We can now confirm and tell you that Vincent is still in negotiations, as the end of his contract is up shortly. The show has added this plot twist, but as I expressed below, please continue to tune in and make your thoughts, wishes, and voices known. Like many of you, I feel there is much more of D...avid's story that needs to unfold and we would love to continue watching Vincent's amazing portrayal of the most complex character on the daytime canvas!

Negotiations?  Really.  Interesting.    The statement goes on to say:

Vincent passed on at how touched he has been by the overwhelming support and outpouring of messages that he has received over the past few days from all of you. Vincent writes, "I can't say enough how appreciative I am of all the comments on websites and message boards that have been written in support of my work and my character. There would be no doubt to me whatsoever, if I do return to AMC, it will be in greater part because of this wonderful outpouring from all of you who love the show and David as much as I do. I am forever grateful to all of you..."

If?   Honestly are the writers at AMC on crack?  They lost David Canary (Adam).  They lost, for the most part, Thorsten Kaye (Zach).  Are they really ready to give up Vincent Irizarry too!?  If Vincent wants to leave and go back east, I think most fans, myself included, would accept that.  But the writers David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski have called David's death as "storyline dictated" which means, they don't know what else to do with him, where to go.  Those two words drive me crazy.  You wrote him into that corner, it's your job to write him out.   So will AMC write (yeah, I did that on purpose) this wrong?

  1. I had the same thought about the timing. It is strange that it was announced the day David's "Death" aired. This whole thing is screwy. And, frankly, the new information makes it all the more confusing. Thanks, Kathy, for your continued reporting. As always, we can count on your for the best and most up-to-date information.

  3. As a poster noted on the Pine Valley Message Board, this has the same stench as the debacle several years ago on Days, when they "killed off" several characters, only to reveal a few months later that they were all being held captive on an island, alive and healthy. Yet those "deaths" were reported in Soap Opera Digest and the actors were off-screen while it all played out. So, this doesn't really surprise me in the least. If Vincent makes a deal with AMC, David will be back. In the meantime, it's got us all guessing.

The question is, will the fans be loyal enough to keep tuning in while Vincent is off-screen. Considering the crummy ratings, it doesn't seem to me that the show ought to be taking this risk.

  4. They are going to have some major problems writing themselves out of this little sham. If you read the previews for next week, it states that JAKE does an autopsy on David and finds out that he was poisoned. How do they write themselves out of that? hmmm?

  5. Now that I have signed up, I will rewrite what I wrote, again.
I believe the move to California has taken a toll on the whole AMC world. New Yorkers and East Coasters maybe missing the hustle and bustle, or the southern relaxed frame of minds, then that of California.
Being a New Yorker myself, I think they maybe going into home sickness.
David is a huge player, and AMC should bring back older people and not shock the show with new faces, though we do need a Hayley type character only updated for this age.
Hmmm, who could have had a baby, that we don't know about. Liza was gone for a period, obviously there is Erika, who could have had dementia from her rape, and had a child she doesn't remember, etc etc etc.
They definitely need a writer who knows the show, and write some stories that have so many cliff hangars everyday, instead of drawing one out for too long.
I love AMC, but hope we get some new young blood, and a few older folks,,,,,imo

  6. @Jeannette I don't think it means Jake does the autopsy, he's not a medical examiner after all. I think Jake guesses on cause of death, but isn't sure so orders an autopsy.

  7. I have been watching AMC since the mid 70's. The show has had it's ups and downs, but, as for me, I will continue to watch this show until one of 2 things happen. Either I die, or the show dies.

  8. Now, technically, Kathy, AMC already did "write this wrong." The question is, will they right the wrong that they wrote? If you see what I mean. ;)

  10. Jeannette1005,

Any storyline can be rewritten/revised. Remember when Jesse "died" in the 80s..his family donated organs of his. Yet..he's alive today...Anything is possible.

  12. I'm kinda glad you got rid of David, but now who's going to be the "heavy"? Been watching the show since it came on the air, all MY children grew up with it and now my husband and I watch every day. Please make sure you keep it on we would really miss it. Still haven't forgiven you for taking Dixie off, though.

  13. I surely hope the producers of AMC have the wisdom to keep David on the show. That character and the brilliant actor who portrays him has been the highlight of the show for me for as long as he (they) have been on the air. (I have watched since 1973)!!! What are you doing to All My Children?????
