Good Bye Pine Valley - Hello Bon Temps!

It's been a tumultuous few years with AMC and even though there have been so many steps in the right direction, I have decided that it's time to move on. Too little too late. My interests have changed, and so will the blog. As of today, the Pine Valley Bulletin is no more, but the True Blood Weekly is born!

Come with me into the dark world of Bon Temps, LA where waitresses are telepathic, bar owners are shape shifters and vampires roam the earth free and out of the coffin. True Blood returns on HBO on June 13!

Learning the Game of Life

In 1985, All My Children released a Game Board that gave their fans the chance to live out the lives of some of their favourite Pine Valley Citizens. Though the game proved to be incredibly popular, it was not the easiest to figure out.

As Carmen Thomas-Paris recounts, "We tried to play it, but no one could ever figure it out. I remember a few times we tried to play it on the set. The directions are a little complicated. By the time you are finished reading the directions, you didn't want to play anymore."

Let's check out some of the cast featured, then and now:Debbi Morgan (Dr. Angie Baxter Hubbard):
Darnell Williams (Jesse Hubbard):
Michael E. Knight (Tad Gardner Martin):
Carmen Thomas-Paris (Hillary Wilson):

I think that we can agree that time seems to stand still in Soap Land.

CASTING NEWS: Alicia Minshew Stays with AMC!!!

It's official! Alicia Minshew (Kendall) will be staying on at AMC. When word came down the pike that the show was relocating to LA, it was unclear if Alicia would be making the move. Then in early November, Alicia and husband Richie welcomed their daughter Willow and Alicia was on maternity leave for an undisclosed amount of time. No one would say for sure if Alicia was going to stay or go. And a lot of assumptions were made that since her husband is a bar owner in NYC, that she would be leaving AMC. On April 9, Alicia returns to AMC for a short time with Zach (Thorsten Kaye) to arrive a few days later. Now we know, that while Thorsten is only back for this brief visit, Alicia will be making a more permanent return by the end of the summer!

This week from the Soap Blog Coalition!!!

The Bold and the Beautiful celebrated its 23rd anniversary on March 23. Check out photos from the cast's on-set celebration! (Daytime Confidential)

In their latest Soap Opera Digest column, the Serial Drama girls wish that the put-upon heroines on Days of Our Lives would take the wailing and crying down a notch or six, and try to explain how very wrong GH's "Sonny shoots Dante" story is (perhaps unsurprisingly, they had a hard time cutting this part down to 500 family friendly words). (Serial Drama)

Mary Montanari hates to see As the World Turns end, but isn't sure if at this point the writers can do it justice given the time frame they have to scribe happy endings before the world as we have known and loved it stops spinning. (Soap Opera Examiner)

The Stars Reaction To David Canary's Retirement!

Soap Opera Digest interviewed some of the stars of AMC about their feelings on David Canary's (Adam) impending departure. It's sadness and joy all around. Sad to be losing the amazing actor and person that he is, but happy that he will be with his family and enjoying life. Read what they have to say here.

Thaddeus James Gardner Martin 101

Check-out SoapNet's awesome gallery on yours and my favorite Cad, Tad Martin.

I wish that they could have posted some pictures from Tad's early years. Like his friendship with Charlie Brent (technically his nephew) or like when he stole from Grandma Kate.

Check it out the PVB's own Tad history HERE.

ABC Soaps in Depth: Rediscover Hillary Wilson

Check out the latest ABC Soaps in Depth for an interview with Carmen Thomas-Paris, All My Children's Hillary Wilson. As you loyal readers may remember, Carmen came to us first to voice her desire to rejoin the cast.

The Dawn of a New Day

SOAPNet.com has posted the first official interview with the new headwriting team of All My Children, David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski. Check it out HERE.

I don't want to sound critical, but why would a soap in a creative slump hire a man who has seen two soaps canceled on his watch? I'm looking at you, David.

Palmer Cortlandt Tribute!

It's looking like the tribute to Palmer Cortlandt will take place the week of April 19. Taylor Miller's Official Facebook page has given Taylor's AMC airdate as Nina on April 20. James Mitchell, the indelible Palmer Cortlandt, passed away on January 22.

Happy Birthday Cornelius Smith, Jr!!!!

CASTING NEWS: Victor Alfieri Joins AMC!!!

Victor Alfieri has joined the cast of AMC in the recurring role of Ciro, a fashion photographer who will be working with with the women of FUSION. He's also in production for the NBC pilot Undercovers. His first AMC airdate is April 5.

This week from the Soap Blog Coalition!!!

In his first podcast interview since being kished to the curb. One Life to Live's Brett Claywell talks with Daytime Confidential.com's Luke Kerr, Jamey Giddens and Jillian Bowe on the heels of his shocking firing. Hear it at Daytime Confidential. (Daytime Confidential)

The PVB continues it's quest to make the TPTB at All My Children notice that Carmen Thomas-Paris is ready to return to as Tad's first love Hillary Wilson. Check out what Carmen's been up to lately! (Pine Valley Bulletin)

Maybe the fiasco at the Abbott cabin involving a "jury" "convicting" Adam of his crimes wasn't the most ridiculous thing the Serial Drama girls have ever seen, but it's certainly runner-up. (Serial Drama)

As the World Turns' Henry and Barbara seem to have seamlessly found a comfortable groove on many levels while hanging out together that goes well beyond the intensely satisfying sexual chemistry they clearly share under the sheets. (Soap Opera Examiner)

Now and Then: Maurice Benard (ex-Nico Kelly, 1987-89)

The artist formerly known as Maurico Morales, then and now:
THEN

NOW

Frankly, I prefer him as Pine Valley's Nico Kelly compared to Port Charles' Sonny Corinthos.

The Life of An Artist

Carmen Thomas-Paris (ex-Hillary Wilson) has kept herself busy. She has just finished a show at the Aldrich Museum, with a scheduled follow-up performance at Los Angeles' Paul Getty Museum (see below for a photo).

She has also been cast at the EdgeMar Center of the Arts' production of SOAR, a 2 character play about a mother and her teenage daughter. The show will run from April 23-May 16, 2010. Carmen is hopeful that, "maybe some of the folks from AMC will come out and see it."

For more information on the show and how to get tickets, check out the EdgeMar's WEBSITE.

The Fox and the Hound: They Were the Best of Friends

Natalie Marlowe (Kate Collins, l.) and Donna Beck (Candice Early, r.) were more similar than anyone thought. Both survived, as Donna put it in 1995, "the Palmer Cortlandt experience." Both were single mothers. Their similar circumstances lead to something very rare between women in Pine Valley, a friendship.

When Natalie was down and out after accusing son-in-law Ross Chandler of raping her, she became the pariah of Pine Valley. Donna stood by her, remembering how only a decade earlier she was made to be an outsider because of Phoebe Tyler's disapproval of her unfortunate life circumstances (Donna was a prostitute and in love with her grandson. Who can blame Phoebe for "overreacting?").

Natalie and Donna's friendship looked like it was going to last the test of time. Even after moving from Pine Valley in 1992, Donna would return to act as maid of honour for Natalie's impromptu wedding to her one true love, Trevor Dillon.

In 1993, Donna would return to town one more time... for Natalie's funeral.

Rediscover Hillary Wilson: It's Crunch Time

My dear friend Carmen Thomas-Paris reached out to me with this news from ABC:
"My manager called the producer and casting and asked if Hillary Wilson was coming back and she said 'no'... but I hear that in the future, that could change especially if they hear from the viewers!"
So if you want Hillary and Carmen back in Pine Valley, please make your voice heard! Respond on the message board to the Hillary Wilson articles on the Official All My Children Website and SoapNET.com! Or reach out via email to AMC Producer Julie Carruthers at Julie.Carruthers@abc.com or ABC Daytime President Brian Frons at Brian.Frons@abc.com! You can also write the show: 500 Buena Vista Street, Burbank, CA 914521.

UPDATE 3/16/2010: Sources have confirmed that at the current time, there is NOT currently an active casting call for Hillary.

Also check out Carmen's official Facebook site for Hillary HERE.

Ooops...

Friendly Readers,

We at the PVB apologize for our slight editorial snafoo this weekend when we wrongfully marked it as the anniversary of the first wedding of Pine Valley's devil and devil in disguise (its a very pretty one if I say so myself), Adam Chandler and Liza Colby. In actuality, the day marked the third wedding of the couple (check out the clip below to see how Adam and Arlene's marriage met its end, paving the way for Adam and Liza's reunion).

We also wanted to clear something up for our readers. There actually two of contributing to this blog. You have Kathy Carano, your beloved Editor in Chief and founder of the Pine Valley Bulletin, and History blogs by AMCHistory, the user more readily known as DandTMartin4ever. We have been working as a team since the launch of this blog in August 2008.

So, if you have any questions about current news and headlines, feel free to reach out to Kathy. If you notice another terrible history snafoo (sorry!) reach out to me, AMCHistory. Sorry, we make mistakes. After all, we are all human (like human human, not Erica Kane human).

Thanks for your time, loyal readers. We hope that we can continue to provide you the best and most up to date and interesting information on our favourite show!

Sincerely,
The Webmasters
The Pine Valley Bulletin

Michael Fairman Soaps: AMC Behind the Scenes!

Michael dropped the PVB a line to let us know about his amazing interviews on AMC's new set in Los Angeles. Take the time to read through and watch his videos. They are truly wonderful. Quote of the article must go to Vincent Irizarry (David) who said, when Michael told him he has taken Eden Riegel's (ex-Bianca) place in the opening sequence of the show, “I actually had no idea. I probably bumped her off in an unscrupulous manner, and did not know I even did it.” LOL

Amanda Seyfried in April Esquire!

If you pick up the April 2010 issue of Esquire magazine you'll be in for a gorgeous treat. AMC's former Joni, the teen with her eyes on Jamie Martin, is definitely all grown up. With some blockbuster films now to her credit (Mean Girls, Mamma Mia, Jennifer's Body, Dear John and the soon to be released Chloe and Letters to Juliet) as well as HBO's hit drama Big Love, Amanda Seyfried's a bonafide star but we can say "we knew her when." In the interview, Amanda talks about her role as a call girl opposite Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson in Chloe, why she's leaving Big Love and a lot more. Check out the very candid interview and the amazing photo shoot on Esquire.com

Flashback: A Not so Classic Case of "I Do."

Back in 2001, Adam Chandler and Liza Colby wed for the last time. And as usual it was full of drama. Adam was recently divorced from Arlene Vaughn (don't ask!) and Liza realized she still loved him. But then, complications come into full swing! Ahh you remember the Libidozone filled ride on the Fidelity right? Well, Hayley caught her mother trying to seduce Mateo during that little soiree and seemingly killed her. Adam found Arlene's body and, in an effort to protect Hayley, he threw Arlene's body overboard!

Riddled with guilt, Hayley took on her mother's persona and as "Arlene" she called all the Chandler's to meet her
at the Fidelity. Adam hired a hitman to kill Arlene once and for all. The hitman shot Vanessa by mistake, and it was revealed that Arlene was really Hayley! So with no Arlene, Hayley was put on trial for murder. Adam admitted in court that it was him who threw Arlene overboard but soon after his admission, Mateo showed up in court with a very much alive Arlene who was living it up in the Caribbean! Hayley was free to go, but Adam was placed under house arrest. It was during this house arrest that he and Liza married for the third time.

It wasn't long after this though, that their happy re-reunion fizzled. They divorced in 2003.

Aiden is the Resident Hottie at DWTS!!!

Check out Lacey, I think she's smitten! Hands off Lacey! Our Aiden is a married man :)

Soap Opera Digest Flashback: Hillary Wilson

Pick up this week's issue of Soap Opera Digest to see a flashback photo of Carmen Thomas Paris on her first day as Hillary Wilson (below). Did you know, Thomas-Paris actually auditioned for a role on Ryan's Hope. Someone at AMC got a hold of her reel, and Hillary was born:

Inspired by the SOD feature, Carmen dug up a cover she and Michael E. Knight (Tad Gardner Martin) shot in 1986:

They look like such a happy couple...too bad it didn't last.

Do you want Hillary and Carmen Thomas-Paris back in Pine Valley as much as we do? Make your voice heard! Reach out to AMC Producer Julie Carruthers at Julie.Carruthers@abc.com or ABC Daytime President Brian Frons at Brian.Frons@abc.com

The Tyler Family Revisited

With the revelation that Damon Miller (Finn Wittrock) is Hillary Wilson's son, the canvas has gained a new Tyler...well, sort of. Look for Hillary (Carmen Thomas-Paris) in the Tyler Family Tree below to see where Damon fits in with this very convoluted family:

Isn't it weird to think that Damon is Langley Wallingford's (Louis Edmonds) grandson?

Let's Not Forget...

Palmer Cortlandt (the late James Mitchell) was not the most honorable man in the planet. The best example of his skewed sense of morals was his twisted marriage to Donna Beck (Candice Early). The whole time Palmer was married to Donna, he was seeing Daisy on the side. Then, he had the audacity to try and kill Donna for sleeping with Chuck Tyler (then- Richard Van Vleet). I guess he was upset that their son, Palmer John, was actually Chuck's.

Yesterday, I listed a few of Palmer's loved ones who I think should come to pay last respects to their patriarch. But really, how fun would it be to see Donna sing at the funeral in memory of her ex-husband, and then spit on his grave.

After all, this is Pine Valley.

SoapNet: Who is Hillary Wilson?

It looks like the good people at SoapNet.com read The Pine Valley Bulletin. Not only did they pick-up on our campaign to get Hillary Wilson back onscreen, they seem to have pulled from our Quick Guide Biography to write their story.

Let's hope that this is a sign that ABC may invite Carmen Thomas-Paris back. Write a comment on their story to make your voice heard! CLICK HERE

SIDE NOTE: I wish that I worked for SoapNet.com. Just putting it out there.

Calling all Cortlandts (Cooneys, Warners, Etc.)

With today's big news that Mama Cortlandt, Daisy Murdoch (Gillian Spencer), will be reprising her signature role for Palmer's funeral, let's keep our fingers crossed that tptb can entice a few more Pigeon Hallow natives to once again make the long trek back to Pine Valley. My dream invite list would include:

Ross Chandler (Robert Gentry, 1983-1989) The Cortlandt and Chandler heir apparent, Ross through away his future by raping Palmer's wife, good-girl Natalie Marlowe. Guess which part of the above statement is a lie.
Last we heard, Ross was working for Cortlandt Electronics in the Middle East.

Andrew Preston Cortlandt (Stephen Caffrey, 1984-86) Andrew grew up thinking that Ross was his father... or was the sly boy in on his mother Cynthia's (played by GH's Jane Eliot) plot all along. Well, he really was a chip off the old block when you put him side by side with Palmer. Too bad he is serving time for unintentional homicide (he loosened the saddle on Ross' horse during the Wallingford Fox Hunt at the English Estate... say that three times fast).

Petey Cortlandt (Daniel Kennedy, 2008-09) Can we close our eyes and pretend that TPTB did not let this young talent get away. Daniel Kennedy was everything viewers wanted in Petey: preppy, particular and gorgeous. The Julliard grad should have had the first ticket to LA.

Bobby Warner (Brian Gaskill, 1996-98) Soap-Vet Gaskill has made it clear that he would reprise the role of Bobby in a NY (well LA now) minute. Plus, he was the last actor in the role that ever had any significant screen time with Mitchell. Viewers last saw Bobby runway after extorting money from his brother-in-law Edmund Grey.

and....

Dr. Cliff Warner (Peter Bergman, 1979-89) Come on Y&R, if it was not for AMC, you wouldn't know who to cast on your show (Bergman is joined by Stacy Haiduk (ex-Hannah), Liz Hendrickson (ex-Maggie), Billy Miller (ex-Richie), and now Eden Rigel (ex-Bianca)! Pay back the favour and let us borrow Bergman for one day. What I would do to see Cliff and Nina together again...

Daisy Returns to Pine Valley!!!

The Official Taylor Miller Facebook (Nina) page has confirmed that Gillian Spencer (Daisy) will be returning for the Palmer Cortlandt tribute! This is AMAZING news! But really, how could you have Palmer's funeral without Daisy? Taylor also informs us that is now reviewing the script so should be filming very soon. James Mitchell (Palmer) passed way January 22 at the age of 89. AMC has been planning the tribute show ever since, but considering the move to LA, the new writers coming in and any other complications, it was being delayed until Spring. We will let you know as soon as we have an airdate and any other confirmations. So we have Nina and Daisy confirmed, but who else should be there? What about Lanie?
