Happy Birthday Debbi Morgan!!!

Happy Birthday to Debbi Morgan, the beautiful and talented woman behind Angie Hubbard, who has been nothing short of amazing all these years.  I will miss those dimples!   Debbi heads to Young and the Restless after AMC's run on ABC and will first air on October 7.   She celebrates her 55th birthday today.

Debbi Morgan to Y&R!!!

Debbi Morgan (Angie) has signed up with Y& R!   She begins filming in September after AMC wraps production (at least on TV).  No word on her character just yet.  She joins a bevvy of AMC alums currently on Y&R including Peter Bergman (ex-Cliff), Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca), Elizabeth Hendrickson (ex-Maggie), Amelia Heinle (ex-Mia) and Billy Miller (ex-Richie).  Maybe they should change the name of the show to All My Young and Restless Children!

Debbi Morgan's Leave...

 Debbi Morgan (Angie) recently revealed on the Tom Joyner Morning Show that her leave from AMC is due to contracting Lyme Disease.  The infection, caused most often by a tick bite is being treated and she should be returning to the studio the second week of February, putting her back on screen in early March.

AMC Gets Some Nominations for NAACP Image Awards!

This years NAACP Image Award nominations are out and AMC, past and present, is represented nicely.  Debbi Morgan (Angie) was nominated in the Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series category.  And for the guys, Darnell Williams (Jesse) and Cornelius Smith Jr. (Frankie) were both nominated as Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series.  In addition to our current cast members, Lamann Rucker (ex- Garrett) was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns.  The awards will be handed out on March 4 and will broadcast live on Fox beginning at 8:00 pm EST.

Effective Immediately Debbi Morgan on Leave!!

SOD is reporting that Debbi Morgan (Angie) is taking a leave of absence from AMC for personal reasons.  It's unclear how long she will be gone or when she will be back.  Hopefully all is well in her world and we'll see her back soon!

Happy Birthday to Debbi Morgan!!!   While Angie Hubbard is in her mid-40's, today Debbi celebrates her 54th birthday and is as gorgeous as ever. 

Learning the Game of Life

In 1985, All My Children released a Game Board that gave their fans the chance to live out the lives of some of their favourite Pine Valley Citizens. Though the game proved to be incredibly popular, it was not the easiest to figure out.

As Carmen Thomas-Paris recounts, "We tried to play it, but no one could ever figure it out. I remember a few times we tried to play it on the set. The directions are a little complicated. By the time you are finished reading the directions, you didn't want to play anymore."

The NAACP Image Awards were handed out last night, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Debbi Morgan (Angie) and Cornelius Smith Jr. (Frankie) were nominated in the Outstanding Actress and Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama categories, respectively and they both took home the trophies!!! Congrats to both!!!!

Debbi and Cornelius Nominated Again!!!

Once again this year, Debbi Morgan (Angie) and Cornelius Smith, Jr. (Frankie) have been nominated for NAACP Image Awards! In the Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series category, Cornelius has been nominated along with Bryton James (Y&R), Cassius Willis (Y&R), Terrell Tilford (OLTL) and Texas Battle (B&B). And in the Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama category, Debbi has been nominated along with Daphne Duplaix (OLTL), Eva Marcelle (Y&R), Tatyana Ali (Y&R) and Tonya Lee Williams (Y&R).




The 41st Annual NAACP Image Awards will be handed out on Friday, February 26 and be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 8:00 pm EST. Congratulations to all the nominees!!!

Celebrate AMC with the NY Times!

The NY Times is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of AMC on Sunday, January 10 with a Q&A session featuring legendary AMC creator Agnes Nixon, Susan Lucci (Erica), Debbi Morgan (Angie), Rebecca Budig (Greenlee), Cameron Mathison (Ryan) and AMC EP Julie Hanan Carruthers. This is a definite must event for diehard AMC fans who won't want to miss a reading of one of AMC's original scripts with Agnes Nixon reading the part of Mona Kane. The event will be held at The Times Center, 242 West 41st Street New York City. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by clicking here.

Debbi walked down the aisle yesterday, marrying her boyfriend Jeff. Many of her AMC family were in attendance at the Washington DC ceremony. The bride was given away by none other than her on screen husband Darnell Williams (Jesse)!

Some say all roles on soap operas can be recast. In fact, Agnes Nixon had warned the original cast of All My Children that their contracts were interim until they had proven themselves in their role. Key characters like Anne Tyler and Kate Martin were recast multiple times in the first year. Nixon struck gold with long time cast members Judith Barcroft and Kay Campbell.

All My Children is revisiting this dangerous territory this spring when Jamie Lunar rolls on as Liza Colby, a role already with one failed recast under its belt. Marcy Walker defined the role of conniving, spoiled, rich girl Liza Colby in two stints that spanned just over two decades.

Lunar has the tough role of filling the shoes of one of Daytime's most popular actresses in a very popular role. Only time will tell whether Lunar can count herself amongst the program's finest, or forgettable. The following are just three recasts that left viewers scratching their heads:

Anne Tyler (from Judith Barcroft 1971-77, to Gwynn Gillis, 1979-81)
Though a recast herself, Judith Barcroft brought the character of Anne to the forefront. Barcroft was to the adult set of of Pine Valley citizens what Ruth Warrick (ex-Phoebe Tyler) was to its founders and what Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane) was to its younger set; the axis in which all the story lines revolved. After a memorable love triangle with Nick Davis and Paul Martin, Barcroft took Anne off the canvas with a dramatic fall into insanity after the death of the baby she had longed for, for so long. Co-star Bill Mooney (ex-Paul) said of Barcroft that, "She's an extremely skilled and inventive actor, and a gloriously beautiful woman. I think we have a very special chemistry together."

When Nixon decided to bring Anne back in 1979, the role was recast with Gwynn Gillis. Anne was now the spoiler in the blossoming relationship between Paul and Ellen Shepherd. After her reconciliation with Paul, it was clear that there was not any story left to be told for Anne. She was killed off in a car explosion meant for Paul. Frankly, Anne would have been better off left in Oak Haven.

Dr. Angie Baxter Hubbard (from Debbi Morgan 1982-90, 1993-97, 2008-present, to Saundra Quarterman 1990-91)
Debbi Morgan rocked the soap world when she announced she was leaving her flagship role of Angie Hubbard on #2 Soap Opera All My Children, for fledgling neophyte Generations. The character of Angie stood out for being a positive portrayal of an African American woman. She grew up in front of the audience's eyes from an virginal high school student into a successful doctor. It only made sense that Morgan wanted to explore the opportunities at Generations, a soap opera revolving around an intentionally racially diverse cast.

The decision to recast the role of Angie was even more surprising. By 1990, Angie was not involved in a major storyline or popular romantic pairing; her departure seemed rather imminent. Recast Saundra Quarterman failed to impress the audience. She was let go with very little fanfare less than a year into her run. Morgan would reclaim the role in 1993, and continues to portray the character to this day.

Del Hunkle Henry (Winsor Harmon 1994-95 to Alec Musser 2005-08)
Winsor Harmon did not have much time to make the role of town saint Dixie Cooney's never mentioned half-brother Del Henry his own. The Texan new-comer spent less than a year on the show before departing with on-screen love interest, Sarah Michell Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart). Harmon landed on his feet when he was cast as The Bold and the Beautiful's black sheep,Thorne Forrester.

In 2005, I Want to Be a Soap Star winner Alec Musser came on in the role of a very de-aged Del. What seemed like an idea opportunity to delve into the character's past relationships with the Cortlandt family or ex-fiance Kendall (then recast with Alicia Minshew), instead had viewers seeing Del as an all new character. By the end of 2005, Musser served to solely fill the "hunk factor" in Pine Valley, being dragged out for large ensemble scenes. After three years as a glorified under-five, Musser and Del disappeared into the land of "recurring players;" a move probably left unnoticed by most.


Let's not even get started about Ruth Martin...

Debbi Morgan (Angie) won the NAACP Image Award last night for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama!!! As previously reported, both she and Cornelius Smith (Frankie) were nominated. Cornelius lost out to Y&R's Bryton.

Debbi Morgan (Angie) has been nominated in the Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Series category, along with four actresses from The Young and the Restless (Christel Khalil, Eva Marcille, Nia Peeples, and Tonya Lee Williams). For the Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Series category, AMC's Cornelius Smith, Jr. (Frankie) was nominated alongside four men, Bryton McClure (Y&R), Dan Martin (B&B), Montell Williams (GL) and Texas Battle (B&B).

Seeing the nominations spelled out in such a way (only 4 soaps represented - only two in the actress category!), shows me that soaps have a long way to go in incorporating more diversity in their stories. This is 2009, soaps are in trouble as it is. Step it up networks!!

The show will air live on Thursday, February 12 on Fox at 8:00 pm EST.
