On the heels of the devastating news that both AMC and OLTL have been canceled by ABC, Susan Lucci issued this statement: “The face of daytime television has changed resulting in the cancellation of All My Children. Final episodes will air in September. It’s been a fantastic journey. I’ve loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.”
Come on Susan, tell us what you really think about how ABC made you lie on every damn talk show and appearance you've done since your book was released! That's the statement I'd like to hear.

"I'm looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities" = Gag order
Thanks Kathy for speaking the truth. The show has been such a mess for so long now, it was only a matter of time... I recently lost my sister in law who watched the show religiously from its first day on air. She and I would call each other and kvetch on the story lines, yet each year we would run to NY to see the actors every opportunity we got. Once the show moved to LA, I believe its death knoll was signed. Lizzie- I know you are up there, and you are laughing at this- I stopped watching when David Canary left, and you got angry with me- I dont doubt you helped pull the plug!!!
The cast (past and present) were just on OPRAH ... talk about great publicity and they they just pull the rug from under them? And just what are they going to replace them with?
Maybe Susan can get her old production company back together and continue the show online ... making snobbish remarks about ABC every chance they get!
I've been keeping up with things via the spoilers, since I haven't actually watched in such a long time. It's still sad that this is ending.
I'm glad I did meet you years ago at a Chicago AMC fan event.
Wow Lori! You're blast right out of the past! =)
Not that it matters, but I wonder what the truth is:
Did Susan lie to the fans or did the network lie to Susan?
I understand that SL has never been one to criticise the network, but at this point, come on.....
The fans - who have been loyal, far more loyal than ABC, deserve better than this pablum.
Nutty, my belief is that the network lied to everyone. Susan inadvertently lied to fans because she believed what she was told, what we were all told. "All is well" ABC made a fool out of everyone, stars and fans alike. They should all be pissed off royally and probably are and THAT'S the statement I'd like to hear. Unfortunately we probably never will... burning bridges and all that, no one wants to do that.
Kathy, I suspect that you are right, which is really sad because several actors made statements similar to Susan's (all is well, we are not in danger, when that was certainly not the case).
Personally, I think this is going to backfire big time on ABC, if only for the poor way that it was handled. Most viewers have a low tolerance for dishonesty - and even less tolerance for being jerked around. This situation reeks of both.
I also question their choice of new shows, which are unlikely to build the same type of loyalty as soaps. Ultimately, the best chance for the survival of the genre is if the AMC and OLTL fans gravitate to the four remaining shows, but I'm not sure that's likely, because they have a completely different look and feel.
Sadly, this really IS the end of a genre.
